【Tadaharu’s FINESHOT in THAILAND】Historical links! The Royal Chiangmai Golf Resort

If you come to Chiang Mai, the golf course you cannot leave out of your itinerary is The Royal Chiangmai Golf Resort. This is the oldest and most historical golf course in Chiang Mai, designed by the Five-time British Open Champion, Peter Thompson.

The course layout emanates its history.

What is distinctive about this course is that it incorporated characteristics of a links golf course. Despite being a resort, the difficulty level is rather high. It is, however, enjoyable for golfers of every skill level.

The signature hole is the 4th. From the white tee markers, the length of the hole is 410 yards, but in reality, the wide, uphill fairway with an elevated green, makes the hole more than 430 yards long.

Similar to a “links”, the fairways are undulated.

To make it similar to a links golf course, they’ve constructed the landscape with continuous up and down movement.

Like the famous tree in Thailand, in the middle of the fairway on the 13th par4, many trees line the fairway.

Although it’s a links course, the tree line makes it even more challenging.

The fairway isn’t narrow, but sure seems like it with the soaring trees.

One of the things that makes this course difficult is the rough. Keeping your ball on the fairway and taking your shot at the green from the fairway is a must.

You might be in trouble if you hit your ball in the high rough surrounding the green.

The bunkers are similar to what you would see on a links course: dotted pot bunkers.

Tough, deep bunkers!
